Our successful Reger edition now once again continues, and the critics continue to be more than enthusiastic about the volumes released to date. Musik & Theater has even claimed, 'These recordings number among the best releases currently available in the field of Reger’s organ music'. And Vol. 6 again presents two SACDs in the best Surround Sound. The thirty little chorale preludes for the most familiar numbers in the Chorales op. 135a, composed by Reger expressly with the organist’s traditional duties in mind, occupy the center stage.

Given Weinberger’s choice of instruments, this deserves to be considered a period-performance cycle of Reger’s music. The difference that makes is slight in most volumes, but in this, presumably.

About the present and successful CPO Reger edition, music lovers and critics continue to be more than enthusiastic about the previous installments, Musik & Theater even claiming: "These recordings are among the best currently available in terms of organ music by Reger".Here the focus is on Reger's Opus 67. In May 1901, Reger informed Straube of his intention to "write 30 chorale preludes to the best-known chorales". In the course of time, the project grew to 52 preludes. In the letter of October 22, 1902 to the publishing house Lauterbach & Kuhn in Leipzig, Reger wrote with regard to the collection Zweiundfünfzig leicht ausführbare Vorspiele zu den gebräuchlichsten evangelischen Chorälen, Op. 67 that he could "probably say without arrogance that no such collection has been published since Johann Sebastian Bach". In fact, Reger is to be agreed here without any reservations: Reger's Op. 67 is a work that can be compared to Bach's Orgelbüchlein in terms of content, scope and pedagogical intention.

Johann Sebastian Bachin (1685–1750) musiikki tunnettiin hänen kuolemansa jälkeen pitkään lähinnä alan harrastajien keskuudessa. Felix Mendelssohnin (1809–1847) johtamasta Matteus-passion esityksestä Berliinissä 1829 alkoi Bach-renessanssi, joka nosti barokin mestarin suuren yleisön tietoisuuteen. Samalla Bachin teokset saivat alistua sovituksille, jotka olivat suosittuja aina 1900-luvulle saakka. Sovittaminen oli osa ajan esittämiskäytäntöä, sillä ennen autenttisuuskäsitteen syntyä kaikki musiikki sovitettiin vallitsevan tyylin mukaiseksi, ja niinpä myös Mendelssohnin johtama Matteus-passio oli mukautettu vastaamaan ajan musiikillis-esteettisiä haasteita.

The evocation of the night, the predilection theme of the German Romanticism, has inspired many poets and musicians. From Weihnachten (Christmas night) to Sphärenmusik (music of the spheres) by way of the Abendstern (evening star) and the Symphonic Chorale of Karg-Elert Nun ruhen alle Wälder (all the woods are now at rest) also subtitled Abendlied, the night is alternately here the promise of the good news on Christmas Eve, a metaphor of the eternal sleep or the dawn of a new day in another world. The program of this disc, emblematic of the Germanic Post-Romanticism, is directly inspired by the authentically preserved German aesthetic of the Great Organ Link of Mirepoix Cathedral. Heard are some rare and original works from Sigfrid Karg-Elert where the organ, the violin and the voice are blending with each other.
