Por que ler a Retratos da Leitura no Brasil 4?

The word “fusion” as a musical genre identifier, is a loaded term. At worst, it conjures images of endlessly self-indulgent electric guitar solos, overactive drummers buried deep behind epic drum kits, and seven string electric basses strapped up way too high. At best, it has given us timeless albums that were more sui generis than the mere mashup of distinct styles that it implies. With their album Infusion, Jason Vieaux and Julien Labro suggest a subtle alternative path to stylistic integration; the effectively present several diverse performance approaches all under a concert music umbrella.

Tango is a musical genre. This statement seems almost revolutionary in an era in which that word evokes passionate movements, Argentine and Uruguayans suburban landscapes, but tends to neglect what this dance finds life from: the music. And therefore almost a blasphemous act will appear the proposal of a concert tango record, written by contemporary composers. Going deeper, will kick up a fuss the fact that the musicians in the record are Sicilians, one of whom has built the most of his career in Great Britain. Let’s say that even the composers are all Italians, and the Sunday tanguero will be taken down by tears of madness. But let’s go step by step.

"Play" is a collection of works for two guitars performed by ARIA Award winning guitarist Slava Grigoryan and his gifted younger brother Leonard. Slava & Leonard Grigoryan have been performing together since childhood and their astonishing blend of sound, virtuosic ability and mesmerising stage presence have already won them a vast following as guitar duo.
