The Geneva Chamber Orchestra has always ardently championed renowned Geneva composers such as Ernest Bloch, Frank Martin, Émile Jaques-Dalcroze, Xavier Dayer or Michael Jarrell.

Estelle Revaz is a 27-year-old cellist from Switzerland. Her first recording will feature solo Cello works by J. S. Bach and their reflections in selected repertoire of contemporary composers. Revaz is one of the leading cellists of her generation, and has received several important prizes, performing worldwide to great acclaim as both a soloist and chamber musician. Since 2015 Estelle Revaz has been a prominent member of the prestigious 'Forum of the 100' which shows off those who represent the future of Switzerland.

Folk music and dance have always been a source of inspiration for art music, as they remain in touch with the souls of people. Nevertheless, the tendency of composers towards a universal musical language has significantly diluted the character of ethnic features that they contain, a phenomenon that is especially noteworthy in Europe. In the 18th century, the artistic tendency to emphasize exotic colors and charms arose.

Just like Johann Sebastian Bach before him, Ludwig van Beethoven played a significant role in the development of the cello. His five sonatas for cello and piano, three cycles of variations and the Triple Concerto all enhanced the instrument's expressive scope to an extent that has not been bettered to date. With his unparalleled ability to endow the instrument with highly lyrical and elegantly cantabile qualities, he blazed the trail for composers who would follow him.

Giya Kanchelis cult reputation as one of the most profound musical voices of our time has not always been matched by the availability of his music on record. These world premiere recordings of works written (or recomposed and arranged) between 2016 and 2018 are thus a significant contribution to the Kancheli discography. They find the composer at his most charming and epigrammatic in a series of 25 musical letters for violin and string orchestra. Most of them are under three minutes in length, taking their material from themes written by the Georgian composer for the film scores which he has composed throughout his career.
