Like the film itself, the soundtrack to Miami Vice is no 1980s retro-ride. Sure, it opens with "In the Air Tonight," but it's a cover by nü metal band Nonpoint taken from their 2004 album Recoil. Director Michael Mann's slick revisionist aesthetics are confirmed on two types of tracks. First, there are the dancefloor-friendly ones like "One of These Mornings" (a collaboration between Moby and Patti Labelle) and a house remix of Nina Simone’s "Sinnerman" by Felix da Housecat. Then there are the more atmospheric offerings, such as a couple instrumentals by Scottish band Mogwai and the last four tracks, that suggest the kind of steel-blue ambiance Mann is so good at creating (especially John Murphy's "Mercado Nueva" and Klaus Badelt & Mark Batson's "A-500"). Odder is the lack of local flavor: there's only a pair of Latin-flavored tracks, Arranca and Emilio Estefan, for instance. Not to mention that if ever there was a soundtrack that should have included at least one Miami bass song, it's this one. As for those who still associate Miami Vice with pastel colors and the 1980s, they're better off checking out the soundtrack to Grand Theft Auto: Vice City–a video game that's actually more faithful to the spirit of the TV series than the movie that bears its name. –Elisabeth Vincentelli

One Vice at a Time is the sixth studio album by the Swiss hard rock band Krokus, released in 1982 on Arista Records. It is notable for the strong influence of Australian hard rock band AC/DC on the songs and production, and was the first album to feature Mark Kohler on rhythm guitar. It includes a cover of the Guess Who's song "American Woman". The song "Long Stick Goes Boom" is used in the video game Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories. Bruce Dickinson, who at the time had just been hired as Iron Maiden's new lead vocalist, provides backing vocals on the track "I'm on the Run". Producer Tony Platt was best known for his prior work as engineer with AC/DC.

Cub Sport's forthcoming debut album This is Our Vice, (out June 17th) an album filled with mercurial topics such as self-doubt and self-immolation that are crafted into an expanse of shimmering harmonies. There are a handful of seminal bands from Brisbane, Australia; cult favourites The Saints, and The Go-Betweens amongst them. Few of these bands, despite their status now, can claim to have achieved the level of breakout success that the Cub Sport - Tim Nelson (lead vocals), Zoe Davis (guitar), Dan Puusaari (drums), Sam Netterfield (keyboard) has in merely three years. Cub Sport first caught attention with their Told You So EP (2012) and Paradise EP (2013). The blissed-out, anthemic track Paradise landed them an evening playlist, and a coveted John Kennedy Session at XFM, and a session with Dan Roberts at BBC London; not bad for the band's first venture to the UK! The band then spent the following year impressing at various seminal festivals around the world, including Brighton's The Great Escape, Liverpool Sound City, Music Matters Singapore, London's Calling in Amsterdam and multiple packed rooms during NYC's CMJ Music Marathon.

Love De Vice's mixes are vivid and rich, the rhythm sections is dense, vocals rough and melodic, guitars distorted and decorative, arpeggios ring. There is a lot happening from the start to finish and you hardly know what to expect in the next measure. Take a ride for yourself. You will be rewarded!

Lawalree is the world’s best kept secret. Playing a Bosendorfer piano, he creates an astonishing world of soundscapes, some of it clearly in the Minimal vein, but there is also a large streak of Satie that runs through a great deal of his music, often melancholy, but sometimes humorous as well, and all of his music feels like a journey of discovery that takes you to some really interesting places.

This recording should be in every early music lover's collection! It's a landmark performance of secular song, as close as any modern interpretation can come to recreating not the rarefied music of the court, but the everyday songs of the people. The performances are both heartfelt and erudite- you'll want to hear this CD over and over..
