A masterful voice on the tenor sax, clarinet and seemingly countless other winds, Robby Marshall is sought by some of the most distinctive personalities in jazz. The California native works alongside the talents of Cassandra Wilson, Hugh Laurie, John Daversa, Brenna Whitaker, Trombone Shorty, and countless other masters who attests to his singular and captivating musical presence. Inspired by his recent artistic residency in Paris, Marshall aligns himself with some of most Europe's most accomplished musicians to create his new jazz quartet, a liberating portal for his adventurous and worldly spirit.

This CD contains a very listenable collection of songs, originally on two separate albums made by the Butts Band, paced by ex-Doors Robby Krieger and John Densmore. Robby's post-Doors work is often marked by eclecticism, and the hard and soft rock here is accompanied by or infused with blues, some soul, and a bit of reggae. Still, while almost all the tracks are decent, there is little that is outstanding. Jess Roden's vocals and rhythm guitar highlight the earlier tracks (1-8), reflecting the first album's British lineup save the two ex-Doors. The second group of songs was made by an entirely American outfit. Although the Butts Band's eponymous first album was generally seen as superior, the second album, "Here and Now," had a number of pretty tracks, on display here. Despite the relatively short time after Morrison's death (the Butts Band recorded in the mid-70s), and as you can obviously tell by now, these recordings do not sound anything like the Doors.

Country singer-songwriter Robby Johnson has finished his long-awaited full-length debut album, “Don’t Look Back,” which features a guest appearance by country great Vince Gill. Along with “I Ain’t the Guy,” Johnson co-wrote many of the albums 13 tracks with such noted songwriting artists as Rhett Atkins, Sam Hunt, Chris Young, and Frank Myers, who also has a co-write on Robby’s break out song, 2014’s “South of Me.” He also collaborated with songwriters, including Luke Laird (Tim McGraw, Blake Shelton, Carrie Underwood), Shane McAnally (Reba McEntire, Kenny Chesney, Kelly Clarkson), and others.

The independently released album is due this summer via Sony/RED Distribution. Gill lends his guitar prowess to the album’s “I Ain’t the Guy,” which Johnson co-wrote with notable songwriters Kellys Collins and Juliana Cole. “It was such an honor to have Vince perform on my record. I’ve been a fan of his for some time and always loved his guitar playing,” says Johnson.

The legendary guitarist and songwriter of The Doors and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee Robby Krieger will be releasing his first solo album in 10 years on April 24, 2020. 'The Ritual Begins At Sundown' will be released via his new home at The Players Club, a division of the Mascot Label Group.
