Robert Ealey is no spring chicken. After singing in local Texas bands for years, he finally started recording in the '90s – I Like Music When I Party was the fourth album he cut after starting his recording career. Like the others, it's a greasy colleciton of Texas blues, spiked with a bit of soul. Ealey's voice may be gravelly with age, but it's by no means gone, and with the support of his youthful backing band, he can really bring it home. There's nothing deep here – just party music, played good and simple. Sometimes, that's enough.

Graced with the passion and looks of a '50s rocker, Robert Gordon emerged on the music scene in the late '70s. More than the retro-rocker he was labeled, Gordon sang with such heart and conviction that he helped secure reissues of songs by the many artists who influenced him. The two albums from the vaults of RCA available CD feature memorable versions of Black Slacks, Uptown, and It's Only Make Believe, plus more.

This previously unreleased recording features the legendary saxophonist Dexter Gordon with his quartet, George Cables (piano), Rufus Reid (bass) and Eddie Gladden (drums), captured live at the Chateauvallon Jazz Festival in 1978. The 180gm virgin vinyl pressing features extended versions of 'Tangerine' and 'More Than You Know' and is packaged in a gatefold sleeve with liner notes by famed jazz producer Michael Cuscuna, Penguin Guide to Jazz's Brian Morton and Gordon's widow, Maxine. "The original quartet was at its peak from its first notes to its last gig, as this concert bears out. Dexter is in a joyous and fiery mood, peppering his solos with outrageous quotes from other songs and stretching out. Few recordings by this amazing foursome have surfaced. This concert is a worthy addition to their discography."
