In questo 2020 si celebrano i cinquecento anni dalla morte di Raffaello Sanzio (Urbino 1483 - Roma 1520). Pittore e architetto, fu uno dei più famosi artisti del suo tempo, mitizzato già in vita, oggi ritenuto tra i massimi artefici del Rinascimento. In questo dossier affrontiamo la sua attività di ritrattista, genere nel quale eccelleva e che contribuì fortemente al suo successo. Potenza, monumentalità, eleganza, aderenza alla fisionomia del soggetto erano le caratteristiche che contraddistinguevano i ritratti di Raffaello da quelli di altri artisti del suo tempo, quasi una garanzia di “eternità”.
