Marilyn Monroe was legendarily one of the most iconic personalities of the post-war era, an almost impossibly glamorous film actress and one of the showbiz figures who came to encapsulate the essence of her times and how they are remembered.

Released to coincide with the veteran pop metal outfit’s 25th anniversary, Capitol/EMI's two-disc, Double Dose: Ultimate Hits Poison collection features 35 tracks, including classic singles like “Every Rose Has Its Thorn," “Talk Dirty To Me,” "Unskinny Bop,” and "Something to Believe In." To be fair, Poison hardly had enough “hits” to warrant a two-disc “hits” collection, but the group’s amiable blend of lip-glossed glam and stadium balladry was almost always listenable. Wisely, much of the material is culled from the band’s early days, with fan favorites like “I Want Action” and “Look What the Cat Dragged In” leading the charge. The myriad covers songs from 2007’s Poison'd! feel a little tacked on and opportunistic (much like the record itself), but this is the band that wanted “Nothin' But a Good Time," and this walk down memory lane proves that they more than lived up to their end of the bargain.

Funeral For A Friend is a Led Zeppelin bootleg taken from a live show on 19 September, 1970 at Madison Square Garden in New York City. The group played two shows that day, one at 2pm and another at 8pm. This CD is taken from the late show at 8pm. The audience recording was taped the day after the death of guitarist Jimi Hendrix, and Robert Plant offers condolences. This was performed a little over two weeks before the release of Led Zeppelin III, so it is quite pleasant to hear the reaction to the new material that includes "That's The Way", "Gallows Pole", "Since I've Been Loving You" and "Immigrant Song".

It follows the band's 2017 album Forget, and was co-produced by member Angela Seo and Deerhoof's Greg Saunier. The record is said to feature "themes and references" of and to "ritual, mythology, mundane and divergent belief, film, music, and resurrected motifs from preceding Xiu Xiu videos". It was also noted to be "imbued with the agitation, tension, sorrow and anger that has permeated the daily lives of so many over the last few years".

An energetic double-disc live set that touches on nearly all of the group's hits up through Flesh and Blood, plus many of their better album tracks, Swallow This Live is of definite interest to the devoted Poison fan. Of course, it's largely over the top and has moments of excess – the 6:30 drum solo and the 9:30 guitar solo being prime examples – but that nicely sums up the spirit of the time period. Four new studio tracks are included as an added enticement.

Following their uncompromising and psychotic debut album, the similary styled "Le Poison Qui Rend Fou" isn't something to joke about either. This time around, Roger Trigaux' songwriting tends to be more diverse and less minimalist sounding, keeping the hypnotic and gloomy moods present on Triskaidekaphobie only with a slightly less demanding approach…

Tony Joe was already 26 when he started recording, so perhaps that explains his style was already fully formed from the beginning onwards and that he had already written a bunch of material. He’d release 5 studio in four years and Tony Joe – his third and last album for Monument – was also a third effort in less than two years. With a pace like that, things didn’t change that strikingly: the recognizable swamp sound is still intact, even though there are perhaps a bit more acoustic songs, but the fact that four of the last five songs on the album were covers perhaps signalled that the pace was getting the best of him. Anyway, those who liked …Continued will dig Tony Joe as well. Overall the sound is perhaps a bit gruffer and there are not as many ballads, while there are several more similarities……….
