Nina Simone (English Nina Simone, real name Eunice Kathleen Waymon, English Eunice Kathleen Waymon, February 21, 1933 — April 21, 2003) was an American singer, pianist, composer, arranger.

Roy Kelton Orbison (English: Roy Kelton Orbison; April 23, 1936, Vernon — December 6, 1988, Nashville) was an American musician, a pioneer of rock and roll, who became famous for his special timbre of voice, complex musical compositions and emotionally intense ballads.

From 1965 to 1981 Munich’s Domicile jazz club was a mecca for international jazz. This live 1971 album brings together that period's Who is Who of the German jazz scene.

And as a further twist, a number of the artists here are American — which makes the whole thing a great trans-national performance, handled with energy to match.

"Gee, Baby, Ain’t I Good To You" gives us a part of that wonderful evening of October 30, 1967 in the Fine Recording Studio on West 56th Street in Manhattan when the tapes rolled while Rushing and his old Basie bandmates, Dicky Wells, Buck Clayton, and Jo Jones reunited and entertained a select audience with relaxed, freewheeling renditions of classics from the blues and swing lexicon.

"Walkin’", now considered one of the earliest essential albums in the Miles Davis canon, comprises two classic 1954 sessions: one with a quintet; the other a sextet. The influential sextet session, featuring trombonist J.J. Johnson and Lucky Thompson on sax, took advantage of long-playing record technology with two extended jams that announced both the return of modern jazz musicians to a focus on the blues and the coming of the funky hard bop era. The quintet date, with underground legend Davey Schildkraut on alto sax, provides the first inkling of the trumpeter’s haunting muted style and introduces his classic composition "Solar".

Haydn’s star towers over the firmament of classical music – that of a creative genius whose boundless imagination continues to shine brightly in our own day. For their first recording, the Trio Ernest have brought together pieces that they have come across in the orbit of this composer so dear to them.

Although this Christmas compilation is credited to "Louis Armstrong & Friends," it's really more aptly categorized as a various artists anthology, since Armstrong only has six of the fourteen tracks.

"Satchmo Plays King Oliver" is one of those titles that audiophiles have known about for years and a favorite at Hi-Fi shows for demonstration. The first cut, "St. James Infimary" is out of this world like many of the other tunes including a great version of "Frankie and Johnny". This record is Louis' tribute to the man who helped shape his trumpet style back in New Orleans and whose invitation to join his band in Chicago put him in the spotlight which has shone on him ever since.
