Everything that Schubert wrote seemed to have melody as its starting point. His piano music, so different from that of Beethoven, pulsates with this innate lyricism. The two sets of impromptus, not fiendishly difficult to play, require a pianist who can make the piano sing. Such a pianist is Krystian Zimerman. Indeed, his use of rubato and minute tempo fluctuations might seem excessive to some, especially in D 899 No 1, but I find them well-judged. Noting also Zimerman's velvet touch, and the warm DGG acoustic as recorded in 1991, I count this CD a total success.

There are interpretations of Schubert’s Impromptus that are full of poetry and lyricism, full of internalization (I’m thinking of Perianes and Pires), and there are much harsher, hard-chiseled ones (Ashkenazy). Cyprien Katsaris combines both views, thus achieving interesting contrasts. He reveals the singing Schubert as well as the rumbling, even the hot-tempered and angry Schubert, and all this in a very clear, transparent piano sound, in which also expressive levels can be revealed without blurring. The overall impression is of a very personal, highly committed and always alert, spontaneous performance that expresses Schubert’s emotional ups and downs without any sentimentality.Urgent release to commemorate Katsaris' visit to Japan! Schubert Improvisations on Bechstein! The latest recordings from 2022 & 2023 from the independent label "Piano21" of Cyprian Katsaris, the wizard of the keyboard, the incarnation of superb technique! Recently, he has been releasing rare transcriptions of Bizet's "Don Giovanni" (ONIFCCD141) and Saint-Saens' "Symphony with Organ" (OP21064N) arranged by Katsaris himself, and this time, he has released a new recording of "Schubert's 31 short years of life" (OP21064N). Please look forward to a new frontier of Katsaris, who continues to deepen and deepen his repertoire at the age of over 70.

Bobby Mitchell & the Toppers were part of the wave of New Orleans rock & rollers who followed in the wake of Fats Domino and Lloyd Price. Although the group had limited success (their best-known song, "Try Rock 'n Roll," climbed into the R&B Top 20 nationally, and "I'm Gonna Be a Wheel Someday" was a smash in numerous localities without ever charting nationally) and broke up in 1954, Mitchell remained a popular figure in New Orleans R&B for 35 years.

The works of Schubert are central to Elisabeth Leonskaja's repertoire - and her interpretations of his work have been described as "essential". Born in the Soviet Union, where her greatest mentor was Sviatoslav Richter, she moved in 1978 to Vienna. She has said that: "In Schubert, there are things that any average Viennese person will understand better than I do … I, though, have to think about them carefully. In Schubert, profound matters are expressed with a lightness of touch."

Ronald Brautigam performs some of Franz Schubert’s most profound and beloved works: the eight Impromptus. Schubert’s name has become closely associated with this genre, often characterized by a lyrical melody and a free-flowing structure, with a sense of spontaneity. With it, Schubert seems to have found an ideal setting for the expression of his genius.
