Heinrich Schütz (1585-1672) had already completed his eightieth year when he set the 119th Psalm to music with almost youthful freshness. The enormous text poem apparently offered him a musical challenge of the highest caliber and, in terms of content, the opportunity to write down his unshakable faith in a powerful confession. He supplemented this so-called swan song with his creative examination of Psalm 100 and the German Magnificat - two hymns of praise to the greatness of the Lord in whose hand he felt secure.

The ‘Christmas History’ is one of the best-known works by Heinrich Schütz (1585-1672), probably the most important composer in Germany before Johann Sebastian Bach.

„Cymbalum Sionium“ is a varied collection of motets by German composer and Thomaskantor Johann Hermann Schein (1586-1630), who is considered, along with his acquaintance Samuel Scheidt and his close friend Heinrich Schütz, one of the three finest composers of the early Baroque era. “Cymbalum Sionium”, as one of his most magnificent works, is a musical treasure chest that contains polyphonic pieces for major feasts such as Christmas and Easter, alongside motets for weddings and funerals, sung by single or multiple choirs.
