Malebranche sottopose l’opera a continue revisioni nel corso della sua vita, fino a giungere a un’edizione finale del testo, nel 1712. Di quest’ultima, Maria Garin ha realizzato nel 1983 per i tipi della Laterza una traduzione in italiano, basata sul testo critico fornito da Geneviève Rodis-Lewis nel quadro delle Oeuvres complètes di Malebranche. L’edizione era introdotta da un saggio di Eugenio Garin. Oggi viene riproposta con una nota di Emanuela Scribano che riattraversa la filosofia di Malebranche mettendone in luce originalità e ricchezza.
