It is all about the life and times of two kids Periya Kakka Muttai (Vignesh) and his younger brother Chinna Kaaka Muttai (Ramesh) growing up in a slum, who make their living stealing coal from the railway yard. Their father is in the jail while mother (Ishwarya Rajesh) brings them up. The urchins have their own dreams like any other kids and here, they want to try out a Pizza from the newly opened Pizza shop. Their curiosity about pizza is because, the new shop is opened by Tamil star Silambarasan. They decide that by hook or crook, they will gain entry into the upmarket Pizza shop and have a slice of it with their own money. Will they succeed in their attempt?

Taare Zameen Par is a rare emotional treat that traverses through the life of an eight-year-old dyslexic kid Ishaan Awasthi (Darsheel Safary). His struggle at school, with the kids in his colony, his spate with his father, his confessions to his elder brother and the trust he shares with his mother forms the backbone of the first half of the movie. His parents give up on him and he ends up in a boarding school.

In the second half, his life goes through a transformation after a new art teacher Ram Shankar Nikumbh (Aamir Khan) joins the school.

The song was recorded in 2009 by the Pussycat Dolls with English lyrics and featuring lead vocals from Nicole Scherzinger. Produced in collaboration with A. R. Rahman and Ron Fair, Scherzinger prefers to consider this version an interpretation of the original song rather than a remix. The song was released internationally on February 24th 2009 and in the UK on March 15th 2009. 'Jai Ho' entered the UK Singles Chart at No.20 on March 22nd and the following week it rose 15 places to No.5 giving the Pussycat Dolls there eighth top ten single in the country. The song initially was released as a promotional single, but will now be released as the first worldwide single from 'Doll Domination 2.0' [2009], a re-release version of of their original album 'Doll Domination' [2008]. The music video premiered on March 13th 2009. The Pussycat Dolls recreated the last scene from Slumdog Millionaire in the video for 'Jai Ho [You Are My Destiny]' featuring A.R. Rahman. The clip was shot at a Tramway Museum in Vienna, Austria, and was directed by Thomas Kloss.
