Small Country an African Childhood

With their second album Kin Sonic, Jupiter and Okwess transcend the Congo’s unexplored musical heritage and dive into a pool of modernity. We’re invited to savour his latest recipe, the Okwess (‘food’ in the Kibunda language) which is the fruit of all the encounters and influences he has absorbed during his many journeys around the world. It’s a recipe based on perfect alchemy, enriched by contributions from Damon Albarn of Blur and Gorillaz, violinist Warren Ellis of Nick Cave’s Bad Seeds and Robert del Naja, aka ‘3D’, of Massive Attack.

Two years after his first album, Etienne Sevet aka The Bongo Hop vows to fulfill the expectations born after Satingarona pt 1, in which he’d laid the foundations of his own afro caribbean « metissage ». This time again, with Satingarona pt 2, the trumpetist hailing from Bordeaux is joined by his friends, colombian singer Nidia Gongora (Quantic, Ondatropica, Canalon) and french producer Patchworks (Voilaaa, Taggy Matcher), alongside newly met colaborators, like parisian impromptu MC Greg Frite, Haitian singer Kephny Eliacin, Cindy Pooch and young talent Laurene Pierre-Magnani from his hometown’s underground caribbean punk scene. New roads and new stories, to a same destination : the land of perpetual dance.

Recorded live in May 2018 in the small church of Casola (BO), solo for bandoneon and flute, this fourth musical chapter of Maver is the transformation of a feeling, where listening outside and inside is a goal, thanks to as a listener and performer they find themselves together in a total experience. Volver is music that comes from silence and that is attracted by silence. The solo does not entertain, undress. The choice to play solo allows Maver to keep the sounds of the instruments pure, working in subtraction and leaving an almost decisive role to the pauses.
