Familiar names jostle for our attention alongside their more obscure comtemporaries and each volume was compiled and sequenced by the legendary Nick Saloman (aka the Bevis Frond). A Journey To Tyme was originally released as a double CD and 3 individual records and this is the first time all 5 volumes have been assembled as a deluxe 5 CD box set. Accompanied by a detailed 84-page booklet featuring updated band histories, rare photographs and full discographies, this is another addition to any fan of the genres collection. This huge set is "an initiative of Radio Netherlands (the Dutch World Service) and the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra…" presented to Bernard Haitink on his seventieth birthday as a tribute to his consummate musicmaking." Haitink, born in Amsterdam in 1929, became joint chief Conductor of the Concertebouw in 1961, along with Eugen Jochum, and was its chief conductor from 1963 to 1988. Like his predecessor, Eduard van Beinum, Haitink also was principal conductor of the London Philharmonic Orchestra, from 1967 to 1979, and in 1978 became musical Director of the Glyndebourne Opera. Ten years later he became musical director of the Royal Opera House Covent Garden. Haitink guest conducted most of the major orchestras of the world and has received numerous awards for his services to music. In January 1999 Haitink was named "Honorary Conductor of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra."

30 prime slabs of mid-60s USA garage punk MISERY - garage punk SADness from LPs 7 & 8 with liner notes, band photos, label scans. (NOTE: This is an entirely NEW series and NONE of these tracks were on the old series “GARAGE PUNK UNKNOWNS”). If anyone knows angst, it's a teenager, a breed that thrives on wearing misery on their sleeves. Fans of vintage '60s garage rock usually favor sneering delinquents armed with fuzz pedals, but there was a long-running subgenre of garage rock that dealt with heartbroken guys trying to make sense of a cold, unforgiving world (or at the very least, cold, unforgiving girls). Crypt Records has given these bummed-out classics their due on Last of the Garage Punk Unknowns, Vols. 7-8, subtitled "Heartbroken American Garage Jangle Misery 1963-1967."

If one had to point to a single initial salvo that launched the garage rock revival movement in the 1970s and ‘80s, it would have to be the release of Nuggets: Original Artyfacts from the First Psychedelic Era 1965-1968 in 1972. Elektra Records had approached rock critic Lenny Kaye (not yet the guitarist with the Patti Smith Group) with the notion of compiling an album of great, overlooked rock tunes, but what Kaye came up with was something significantly different – an overview of the great, wild era when American bands, goaded by the British Invasion, began honing in on a tougher and more eclectic rock & roll sound, and kids were reawakened to the possibilities of two guitars, bass, and drum…
