Soul to Soul is the third studio album by American blues rock band Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble released on September 30, 1985 by Epic Records. Recording sessions took place between March and May 1985 at the Dallas Sound Lab in Dallas, Texas. Vaughan wrote four of Soul to Soul's ten tracks; two songs were released as singles. The album went to #34 on the Billboard 200 chart and the music video for "Change It" received regular rotation on MTV. In 1999, a reissue of the album was released, which includes an audio interview segment and two studio outtakes.

Recorded for a television program of the same name back in 1983, In Session bills itself as the only known recording of Stevie Ray Vaughan and Albert King, who was Vaughan's idol and mentor, playing together. That leads to some heavy expectations, which fortunately aren't disappointed, at least if you aren't expecting the customary over-the-top performances Vaughan was famous for. His playing here is much more laid-back and controlled, which is actually a recommendation–the stylistic similarities between teacher and student are that much more pronounced. The songs are mostly King concert staples, with the exception of "Pride and Joy"; highlights include the T-Bone Walker classic "Call It Stormy Monday" and one of King's own, "Overall Junction," which features some excellent guitar solo work. The snippets of recorded conversation between songs are interesting curiosities as well.

The posthumous archiving work completed so far on behalf of Stevie Ray Vaughan has done right by both fans and novices. Pride and Joy may be for purists, only expanding as it does on a previous VHS release. But the best moments will satisfy the aficionado and may in fact pique the curiosity of the dilettante.
This collection of videos from the 1980s will no doubt provoke more than a little laughter and amusement. But it will reveal how Vaughan and his band managed to make an impression on the culture in the early days of MTV without serious compromise. For one thing, they never appeared without their musical instruments, and the musicians posited themselves as a band even in the kitschiest scenarios such as the one for "Cold Shot. That said, it's hardly necessary to watch the lip-synched likes of "Crossfire more than once to be reminded why David Bowie wanted to hire the guitarist for his "Let's Dance" band (and also why Vaughan decided not to succumb to the temptation of the cult of personality)…
SRV fans and serious collectors alike will surely want Pride and Joy to stand alongside their expanded CDs, box sets and newly-archived titles released since the tragic death of the accomplished guitarist and influential rock musician/blues man in 1990. And finally the DVD medium itself might just be enough to entice those heretofore ignorant of the Texan to pursue a further interest in one of the true blues greats of our time.

LIVE BROADCAST FROM ATLANTA, GEORGIA 31/12/1986 FEATURING LONNIE MACK By late 1986, Stevie Ray Vaughan had been through rehab in London and, according to all reports, was feeling like a new man. His dependency problems, which had haunted him right through his career, were he felt, now behind him and he was intent on two things; getting back to playing the blues and helping others overcome their own, similar problems. He achieved the former with ease and passion - this was, after all, what the master guitarist existed to do.

Live at Montreux 1982 & 1985 is a historically significant recording, presenting Stevie Ray Vaughan in the biggest show of his life to that date, then three years later, once he had become a star. The 1982 show is essentially the show that got his career started. He met both Jackson Browne and David Bowie after his set, and they were so impressed that Browne volunteered use of his studio (for free!) for Stevie to record what would become his debut album, and Bowie recruited him as lead guitarist for the Let's Dance album and tour (alas, the tour was not to be).

Stevie Ray Vaughan s guest slot for Robert Plant on the Non-Stop-Go tour was not at all representative of his worth in terms of bill position or a true reflection of his talent, but was ultimately prestigious enough considering the continuing legacy of Led Zeppelin and their iconic front man. Vaughan and his band Double Trouble were already enjoying the formation of their own legacy, which would grow in stature on the strength of the Live Alive album from 1986, and Vaughan s past collaborations with David Bowie and Jackson Browne.

A Tribute to Stevie Ray Vaughan (1996)

The concert was recorded on May 11, 1995 in Austin, Texas.
There was only one Stevie Ray Vaughan. Picks in hand, these virtuoso guitarists dedicated one night to pay tribute to his prodigious talent. Blues masters who influenced Vaughan, such as B. B. King and Buddy Guy, and contemporary masters like Eric Clapton and Robert Cray, crowd the stage with other performers including Bonnie Raitt and Vaughan's brother, Jimmie. Together and alone, these rockers cover some of the black-hatted axman's finest tunes and honor him with extended jams that echo his own signature style.
