This compilation of Handel performances by soprano Suzie LeBlanc, drawn from three previously released recordings made between 2001 and 2003, serves as an excellent introduction to this fine singer and stands on its own as a thoughtfully programmed recital. The opening "Lascia ch'io pianga" from Rinaldo shows her clear voice and (thankfully) unaffected style, the emotion captured just right, the phrasing eloquent, the control giving no hint of effort. And this holds true throughout every selection, whether in the six-movement, recently discovered Gloria in excelsis Deo (her impassioned "Qui tollis" is a highlight) or in the more virtuosic rapid runs, lightning-quick turns, and subtle ornaments of "Da Tempeste" from Giulio Cesare.

Their debut original album, Boombox, has up-tempo hand clapping singalong pop tunes, and sweet emotional ballads. A skilled 6-piece band with electric guitar, bass, percussion, violin, ukulele, and even a rocking organ /piano player is what you get live. Suzie and Ben Bradford say that artists such as Portugal The Man, Colbie Caillat, Brandi Carlile, Benjamin Clementine, and Amos Lee were influences as they developed this new sound and style.

Acadian soprano Suzie LeBlanc chose traditional songs that range from the serious to the comical and arranged them in collaboration with Bergeron, Lauzer, and Nadeau-Tremblay. “My interest in traditional Acadian songs began some twenty years ago, and I have since recorded three albums of this repertoire with ATMA Classique”, says LeBlanc. “The majority of these songs come from France. But songs, just like peoples, are nomadic: they have no borders!” “The common airs de cour may have crossed the Atlantic stowed in the baggage of musicians and noblemen” says LeBlanc. “The French nobility who settled in Quebec in the 17th century wanted to reproduce the glories of Versailles, and some of these airs could have reached the shores of Shippagan”.
