On Hitlers birthday, the Germans decide to organize a soccer match between prisoners of war and Germans. They assign the task of organizing the team to a well known Olympics football player who demands for his team food and a chance to train. Although the organizer believes that soccer is sacred and does his best to train the team, he is tempted to escape along with the others, when they find an opportunity. They get caught, but the game takes place anyway. They play, hoping that they might get pardoned and not get executed in the end. However, they play too well and the enraged Germans execute them before the game ends.

Ruby n'a qu'une idée en tête : se venger de l'homme qui a assassiné la femme qu'il aimait. Quentin n'a en tête que très peu de neurones. Juste assez pour être d'une grande gentillesse et d'une bêtise à entrer dans le Livre des Records. Les chemins des deux hommes vont se croiser, celui du dur qui n'est que désir de meurtre et celui du simple qui tutoie les anges. La gentillesse catastrophique de Quentin parviendra-t-elle à désamorcer la violence meurtrière de Ruby, c'est le sujet de Tais-toi !.

Le dernier jour de la Première guerre mondiale, Joe Bonham est mutilé par un obus. Il se retrouve manchot, muet, aveugle et cul-de-jatte. Il est incapable de penser ou sentir, mais les médecins prennent soin de lui en vue de la recherche médicale. Joe, dans cette terrible épreuve, se remémmore son passé. Bouleversée par le jeune mourant, une infirmière parvient à communiquer avec lui, il en profite pour lui demander de l'aider à mourir or les médecins ne sont pas de cet avis… Réalisé en 1965, Dalton Trumbo (Spartacus, Exodus) était un scénariste reconnu à Hollywood avant d'être inscrit sur "la liste noire" de la Commission des activités anti-américaines. En 1971, il reçoit le Prix spécial du Jury au Festival de Cannes.
