…Nowhere is this overindulgence as exciting but in his rendering here of Strauss' Death and Transfiguration. Charged with energy, depth, and intellect, this is one of the finest modern-day accounts of this work ever recorded. Telarc's sound is naturally clear and deep, which makes for a riveting compact disc all the way around. If you aren't familiar with Runnicles or his work, you deserve to know both him and it. This recording is not to be missed.

Somewhat of an oddity from Paul Simon's catalog, "Songs From The Capeman" is an interesting selection of songs from the Broadway production of "The Capeman", also by Simon. These selections are, however, performed by Simon along and not the original cast. This makes this album somewhat unusual and remarkable. There are traces of Doo-Wop and Latin music here making for a terrifically enjoyable experience.

Vittorioso sulla flotta musulmana, il moro Otello, che è al servizio della Repubblica di Venezia, rientra da trionfatore a Cipro, dove lo attende la bellissima moglie Desdemona. Egli trova però anche il suo luogotenente Cassio ed il fido, ma invidioso Jago, che aspira a prenderne il posto. Subito Jago provoca un alterco fra Cassio e un altro ufficiale, Roderigo; Otello, sdegnato, priva il suo Luogotenente del grado e del comando. Poi, continuando nelle sue trame, Jago instilla nel cuore del Moro una folle gelosia, facendo in modo che questi sorprenda Cassio a colloquio con la moglie (sollecitata dal giovane ad intervenire in di lui favore). Infine, aiutato dalla moglie Emilia, ancella di Desdemona, Jago sottrae alla dama un fazzoletto (dono di Otello) che poi abbandona in casa di Cassio. Geloso e furioso, Otello, durante un ricevimento in onore di una Ambasceria veneziana, offende Desdemona: ma richiamato in Patria, intende lasciare comunque il comando a Cassio. Mentre quest'ultimo scampa alla morte per mano di Roderigo (istigato dal perfido Jago), Otello entra come impazzito nella propria camera e soffoca Desdemona. Indi, baciando per l'ultima volta quel viso che pure adora, si uccide pugnalandosi al cuore.

With a only a few exceptions, the film follows the same plot as the opera. Jago plots and brings about Otello's downfall by convincing him that his wife Desdemona is engaged in an affair with the young lieutenant Cassio, provoking Otello to murder her in a blind rage.
