Legendary jazz greats Branford Marsalis and Kurt Elling collaborate for the first time on a full album, Upward Spiral. They ve been talking for a while about making a record together, and finally at the end of 2015 it all came together. They found time to play the new material in the New Orleans Snug Harbor club for four days and then recorded a variety of songs in the studio, all chosen because of their melodic richness and musical quality. Their versions of the chosen material are simply incredible, as the musicality of Branford and Kurt and their deep understanding of these songs shows through immediately.
Spiral Realms is the brainchild of legendary violinist Simon House of Third Ear Band, Hawkwind's finest era (In the Hall of the Mountain Grill, Warrior on the Edge of Time, Astounding Sounds, 25 Years On, Quark, Strangeness & Charm and PXR 5) and David Bowie fame. In 1995, he decided to take a brilliant track off Warrior called Spiral Galaxy 28948 (according to legend, his birth date!) and produce two albums of similarly spectacular, spacey, psychedelic and totally original electronic music of the highest caliber. The first one ,"Trip to G9" is a collaboration with American Len Del Rio (keyboardist with Nic Turner's Sphynx as well as Hawkwind side project Anubian Lights) and it is a most rewarding electronic symphony that owes a little to the Tangerine Dream/Klaus Schulze style but is way more violin driven which gives it a completely different aura…
On May 18, AOP Records released the debut album "Blues For A Dying Planet" by the Swedish quintet Spiral Skies. We're honoured that swedish 70s rock music quintet Spiral Skies join forces with AOP Records. Spiral Skies was formed in Stockholm in spring 2014. Consisting of musicians with different musical influences they found themselves sharing the same passion for the 70´s genuine rock and heavy metal music, which led to a creative songwriting progress that developed into something that can only be described as “On other planets kinda rock”. An unique blend of folk, doom and 70s rock music. The band has been compared to band such as Jefferson Airplane, Curved Air and The Devil's Blood, to name a few. The band has spellbound their audience with their unique visual performance with intense and enchanting live shows.
