The Teskey Brothers special, acclaimed 2020 Christmas performance with Orchestra Victoria, Live At Hamer Hall, out now on digital, CD & deluxe double vinyl. On Live At Hamer Hall, the ARIA-winning, Grammy-nominated group's songs were spectacularly reimagined by arranger Jamie Messenger and performed live on stage at the iconic Melbourne venuewith Orchestra Victoria, led by conductor Nicholas Buc, and streamed live to fans across the world onYouTube but unavailable on any other format until now. The 50-minute performance features hits from the band's two critically acclaimed albums RunHome Slow (2019) and Half Mile Harvest (2017) and their two original Teskey Brothers Christmas songs, 'Dreaming Of A Christmas With You' and 'Highway Home For Christmas.'
Although Clifford Brown did a phenomenal amount of commercial recordings during his all too brief lifetime (he died prior to his 26th birthday in a car crash that also took the life of his quintet's pianist Richie Powell, Bud's younger brother), relatively few of the recordings he made were on stage. Fortunately, this CD includes performances from two 1956 broadcasts from the old Basin Street club in New York City, and two tracks from a Carnegie Hall concert the previous year. Although the MC talks over some of the music and the fidelity is typical for Airchecks preserved from the era (distorted rhythm section, barely audible piano and bass), the strong playing of both Brown and tenor saxophonist Sonny Rollins still comes through the noisy clutter.
This is a fine CD of Blues Brothers material, featuring the original Blues Brothers Band and frontman Larry Thurston, performing at Montreux Jazz Festival on July 12, 1989. From the late '80s through the early 90's, the Blues Brothers Band was a popular touring act throughout Europe, with Mr. Thurston doing a fine job on lead vocals. None of the other 90's Blues Brothers frontmen (Dan Ackroyd, John Goodman, Jim Belushi) appear on this CD or in this Line-Up. Not exactly "essential", but a good performance of the tour band during this period of the band's history.
