With Your Wilderness, Bruce Soord's the Pineapple Thief shift their musical focus away from their exploration of polished rock so evident on 2012's All the Wars and 2014's Magnolia, and back toward contemporary prog…
"What We Have Sown" is the sixth album by The Pineapple Thief. The music of "What We Have Sown" perfectly fits the windswept and bleak, yet lush and sunny environment of south-west England captured in the artwork, making for a bracing experience, picturing yourself drifting through that very landscape.
Recorded at Snap Studios and mixed at Strongroom Studios in London, Magnolia represents the ultimate culmination of songwriter & guitarist Bruce Soord’s ongoing quest to raise spirits and connect. A devastating yet uplifting collection of 12 beautifully crafted songs, it showcases the band’s intuitive chemistry and soulful demeanour, cramming a vast array of emotional shades and inspirational ideas into its 47 mesmerising minutes. Veering from the strident opening assault of ‘Simple As That’, due to be the first single, through to the cinematic sweep of the closing track ‘Bond’, it marks an important step in the band’s story, while skilfully encapsulating everything that has made their musical journey such a relentlessly fascinating one.
Remixed & Remastered. The Pineapple Thief have often been slated for taking a heavy amount of influence from Porcupine Tree, another British prog band operating around the same time, however a little research reveals that Bruce Soord (Thief's lead vocalist and songwriter) was entirely unaware of Porcupine Tree until Steven Wilson contacted him in question of how similar their sounds were (the two became friends and Wilson helped bring the band onto the Kscope label, a huge step up from Cyclops). This album then, is a natural progression for the band and is what they had been working towards all that time since their inception in 1999…
Over the last half-decade, The Pineapple Thief - led by musical polymath Bruce Soord and bolstered by the involvement of master drummer Gavin Harrison - has rapidly ascended to the upper echelons of Europe’s Alternative Rock scene.
Digitally remastered and expanded two CD edition of the Prog band's 2008 album. The last few years have seen the Pineapple Thief truly emerge onto a higher stage… bigger and better tours, triumphant festival slots, recording at Peter Gabriel's Real World studios, artwork designed by Storm Thorgerson and new management all give the sense of an act destined for greater things. In association with the Kscope fifth anniversary celebrations, this edition of 2008's Tightly Unwound - the first ever album release on Kscope - has been newly re-mastered and remixed by 360 in London. It will also now feature a bonus disc with tracks from the Dawn Raids EPs plus and acoustic version of 'Shoot First'.
The record took shape slowly but surely as the band meticulously perfected their sound. Often guarded, ‘It Leads To This’ keeps its ace in the pack up its sleeve, biding its time until all the right pieces fall in place, giving way to a beautiful, cinematic experience on every track. Conceptually the record is Soord’s efforts to better understand himself & the world around him. Opening with the coy melodies of ‘Put It Right’ before moving into the metallic groove of ‘Rubicon’, the album builds to the heart of the record with the epic title track, the cathartic ‘The Frost’, followed by an introspective ‘All That’s Left’. The ominous ‘Now It’s Yours’ and ‘Every Trace Of Us’ keep the foreboding atmosphere topped up whilst delivering The Pineapple Thief’s signature dynamism, closing the record with the haunting ‘To Forget’.
