The Browns

Consisting of Jim Edward Brown and his sisters Maxine and Bonnie, The Browns were for a time in the late 1950s one of the most popular country harmony groups. They took the sound of acts like The Delmore Brothers amongst others to a level of crossover success never dreamed of by the pioneers who came before them. This is Jasmine's second volume covering the original LPs by the country vocal group The Browns. The first volume covered the group's first four albums and here they have their next two LPs 'Our Favorite Folk Songs' and 'Sing Songs From The Little Brown Church Hymnal'. The Browns were an American country and folk music vocal trio best known for their 1959 Grammy-nominated hit, “The Three Bells”. The group, composed of Jim Edward Brown and his sisters Maxine and Bonnie Brown, had a close, smooth harmony characteristic of the Nashville sound, though their music also combined elements of folk and pop. They disbanded in 1967 and were elected to the Country Music Hall of Fame in March 2015.

James Edward Brown was an American country singer-songwriter who achieved fame in the 1950s with his two sisters as a member of the Browns. He later had a successful solo career from 1965 to 1974, followed by a string of major duet hits with fellow country music vocalist Helen Cornelius, through 1981. Brown was also the host of the Country Music Greats Radio Show, a syndicated country music program from Nashville, Tennessee.
