Calling for gargantuan orchestral forces, this lavishly illustrated journey is Strauss’s crowning orchestral achievement. Using a vast musical canvas packed with vivid and exquisite details, it’s a bold, optimistic and passionate work, unleashing ecstatic blazes of orchestral colour alongside moments of awestruck contemplation in a continuous narrative of 22 sections, which Strauss threads together with his usual mastery and aplomb.

Beethoven Piano Concertos are amongst the most often performed and recorded works in the repertoire. However, the arrangement for string orchestra by Vincenz Lachner is a surprisingly rare find in recording history, even more so on period instruments.

A meditation on the beauty of nature and the fate of the planet, “This Rock We’re On: Imaginary Letters” is a multi-movement work by the acclaimed composer Mike Holober. Written for jazz orchestra, voice, cello, and percussion, it features art songs set for chamber ensemble that take the form of imaginary letters to or from selected “protagonists” – naturalist authors, artists, and activists who dedicated their lives to appreciating and protecting the earth we inhabit. Each of the vocal works is followed by an instrumental jazz orchestra piece that reflects upon the text of the letter. Recorded and premiered by the GRAMMY® nominated Gotham Jazz Orchestra in June 2023, a double album is scheduled for release on 14th of June 2024.

This album takes us to the Turkish town of Hasankeyf: once one of the oldest continually inhabited cities in the world, home of empires and civilisations, now deep underwater as part of a project to dam the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers. How do you articulate the heartbreak of erasing 12,000 years of history and the drowning the homes of tens of thousands of people?

With RIVER, the band The Human Element, founded in 2016 and existing in this form as a working trio since 2020, releases a profound musical statement that authentically and passionately summarises the intensive joint work of recent years. The three virtuoso improvisers Gero Schipmann (baritone guitar), Johannes Ludwig (saxophone, FX) and Alex Parzhuber (drums) embark on an exciting search for the essence of their songs with blind understanding. An improvising post-rock band that is more oriented towards songwriters than the jazz idiom, they play their songs and pieces with the raw energy of a teenage garage rock band and the unconditional honesty of an aged country singer.
