The Haar

'Haar' is the 5th solo album from Highland fiddler and composer Lauren MacColl. A self-penned and produced collection of music drawn from coastal tales and happenings around the eastern firths of the Scottish Highlands. It has all the elements of her darkly-huen signature sound; melodies which sound ancient yet at once contemporary, a rich fiddle sound equally at home with an achingly poignant air or sprightly dance tune, and a dialogue with her fellow musicians that reflects her open-hearted approach to collaboration.

Athens Of The North team were stunned by the luminous beauty and creativity at play in this work. Falling between genres and time, it stands next to 60s British Jazz, effortlessly blending notes of Library and soundtracks with dashes of British Folk.

Andrew Wasylyk is the alias of Scottish writer, producer and multi-instrumentalist, Andrew Mitchell.
In 2018, Andrew was extended a residency invite from arts centre and historic house, Hospitalfield, Arbroath, Scotland to create new music for their restored, 19th century, Erard Grecian harp.

Modern Obscure Music welcomes Sam Haar to the imprint for the first album released by an artist other than label founder Pedro Vian. The album is entitled Euso. Sam Haar is a New Jersey born producer and sound artist. Influenced by both experimentalism and traditional dance music, Haar’s music is something uniquely his own. He is best known as being one half of musical hardware loving duo Blondes with Zach Steinman (neither of them are actually blonde). They famously favour machines over computers and provide hypnotic live shows. Blondes have released the majority of their discography for Rvng Intl., before jumping to R&S in 2017 for the more danceable Warmth album.
