In the late ‘70’s ‘disco’ became a phenomenon. Fueled by the success of the movie ‘Saturday Night Fever’ and the impact of the dance clubs, the music not only ruled the dance-floors but also the charts across the world. ‘The Best Disco Album’…. brings together the essential tracks from the era. Appropriately we kick off with the track ‘I Feel Love’ by Donna Summer, that not only came to represent the finest in disco but also pointed the way forward to the electronic and sequenced future of dance music. As well as ‘I Feel Love’, huge crowd pleasers from Earth Wind & Fire with The Emotions,

The original line on Gary Clark, Jr. was that the young Texas guitarist was supposed to be the future of the blues, having been mentored by Jimmie Vaughan and Eric Clapton, but as his star rises, Clark has made it increasingly clear that his creative ambitions run a lot deeper than being the next hotshot guitar slinger. On his major-label debut, 2012's Blak and Blu, Clark demonstrated he isn't interested in following the path of blues traditionalists, and while there's plenty of great guitar work on 2015's The Story of Sonny Boy Slim, this is by no means a conventional blues album.

NOW Music is very proud to present the second of our NOW That's What I Call An Era The Albums releases. Most of the albums being highlighted produced huge hit singles that have become both synonymous with the decade and enduringly popular – but these albums are of such a high quality – forever part of the artist’s legacy - that other tracks could have equally become hits – and some have become as well-loved by fans as the singles, and have for many artists always been an established part of their live shows.

Lowe may have only one true hit to his credit (1979's "Cruel To Be Kind"), but he is one of rock's most respected artists. Across 86 tracks, THE DOINGS traces his transformation from self-styled "Jesus of Cool" and purveyor of "pure pop for now people" into a bluesy roots-rocker and perennial critics' darling. The fun-filled pure pop on disc 1 was recorded between 1976 and 1982, skipping recordings from Lowe's tenure as bassist/singer in Brinsley Schwarz, Rockpile, and Little Village. The disc kicks off with "So It Goes", Lowe's 1976Stiff Records debut single, and collects obscure B-sides (the rocking "Shake That Rat") and sublime power pop numbers ("I Love The Sound Of Breaking Glass", "American Squirm"). Discs two and three explore Lowe's 1983-1998 output and find him moving away from boisterous garage rock ("Half A Boy And Half A Man") in favour of reflective roots rock ("Shelly My Love"). A fourth disc of unreleased studio recordings andlive tracks will be of greatest interest to Lowe's dedicated cult following.

Mississippi-born but Texas-based Omar Kent Dykes understands a fundamental fact about modern electric blues. He knows there are only a handful of rhythms and themes in the blues grab bag, and he uses them all over and over again in slightly different guises. This isn't necessarily a bad thing. The blues has lasted this long because it's supposed to sound like the blues, and if you stretch it too far you end up with something like prog rock. It is this fundamental conservatism of the blues and its limited palette that has kept the form alive long after its colorful offspring (R&B, soul, rock & roll etc.) have flown the roost, taking a large part of the audience with them. But Omar understands all this. He has had a 30-year career playing these rhythms, and he knows how to keep it all simple, direct, and powerful, and how to build new songs out of the fabric of the old songs without destroying their familiarity. Bamboozled, a live set recorded at the Musa in Gottingen, Germany on October 20, 2005, finds Omar & the Howlers looking back over that 30 years of bars, sheds, and studios and hitting some of the high points…….

So the new trend here seems to be reviewing recent releases. I figured on writing about this new album by an older established band from the 80s that I just got the second time they played my own town. It's not even on a major and seems to be a self-production, but this band is still worthy to talk about just by the power of their songwriting.
