Signed to Philadelphia International Records (PIR), The Three Degrees made a double debut in the UK singles chart in April 1974 with their own “Year Of Decision”, and “TSOP (The Sound Of Philadelphia”), on which they were co-credited with MFSB. Both songs were written by PIR supremos Kenneth Gamble and Leon Huff, who also wrote the trio’s next single, the chart-topping “When Will I See You Again”. After several more hits on PIR, including “Take Good Care Of Yourself”, they signed to the Ariola label.

"The Best of the Three Degrees", released in 2009, is an 18-track budget anthology that covers the group's 1973-1979 output, including releases for Philadelphia International, Epic, and Ariola, from plush Philly soul to Giorgio Moroder-produced electro-disco. It's surprisingly thoughtful and contains most of the singles and better deep cuts, including "T.S.O.P. (The Sound of Philadelphia)," "When Will I See You Again," "I Didn't Know, "Givin' Up, Givin' In," "Love Is the Message," and "The Runner." Although the presentation leaves a whole lot to be desired, this is a legitimate release from Sony's catalog department. It doesn't look like much, but it offers plenty for casual listeners.

Only diehards will miss earlier (excluded) sides from 1965 to 1969 on Swan, ABC, Warner Bros., Metromedia, and Neptune. This set beams up their hits: "TSOP," "When Will I See You Again," "Maybe," "Dirty Old Man," "Long Lost Lover," etc, and spans to include scorching renditions of New York City's "I'm Doing Fine Now," Marvin Gaye's "Let's Get It On," and Aretha Franklin's "Do Right Woman, Do Right Man." Essential for girl group fans, and a good buy for casual fans.

The Three Degrees’ Philadelphia International Records debut made quite an impact upon it’s release in 1974.
Having been R&B hit makers for years, the group were no strangers to the American Soul Chart but the pairing of the group with Philadelphia’s Gamble & Huff took them to an iconic level of appreciation. The top 20 album spawned the now classic UK #1 When Will I See You Again and the top 20 hit Year Of Decision. Also featured was their Philly debut single Dirty Ol’ Man which topped the charts in the Netherlands, staving off the threat of Demis Roussos in the process!

Standing Up for Love is a 1977 studio album released by the American female vocal group The Three Degrees. Having enjoyed a successful three year streak with Philadelphia International Records (PIR), the group signed a one-album contract with Epic Records (a subsidiary of CBS Records) in late 1976. The resulting album coincided with the departure of founding group member Fayette Pinkney, and the return of former member Helen Scott.
