The Cardigans compilation album, The Rest Of The Best - Vol. 1, covers some of the band's recordings released as B-sides on singles, soundtracks and bonus tracks on Japanese, French and UK versions of their albums between 1994-2006. The volume was compiled by The Cardigans and remastered by Ryan Smith at Sterling Sound. The artwork is created based on photos taken by the photographer Martin Bogren, who worked with the band from the very beginning. Long Gone Before Daylight is the fifth studio album by Swedish rock band The Cardigans. The album differs from much of the band's earlier work, eschewing the pop and electronic rock sound of previous material in favour of a sparser, alternative rock and country-influenced production. Its lyrical themes are also more mature, with subject matter inspired by domestic abuse, depression, love and fatalism. It received generally positive reviews from music critics upon release, with several reviewers commending it as the band's best album, while praising their compositional work and the change in musical direction.

It was produced by Tore Johansson who last worked with The Cardigans on Gran Turismo and since then with the band Franz Ferdinand.. The first single released was "I Need Some Fine Wine and You, You Need to Be Nicer". The second single was "Don't Blame Your Daughter (Diamonds)."
