We know that Brahms was a great enthusiast of the keyboard and yet he composed few works exclusively for piano. The Hungarian Dances (German: Ungarische Tänze) by Johannes Brahms (WoO 1), are a set of 21 lively dance tunes based mostly on Hungarian themes, completed in 1879. They vary from about a minute to five minutes in length. They are among Brahms's most popular works and were the most profitable for him. Each dance has been arranged for a wide variety of instruments and ensembles. Brahms originally wrote the version for piano four hands (piano duet: two players using one piano) and later arranged the first ten dances for solo piano.

A unique film deserves a unique score. The famous song from “The Longest Day” was written and composed by Paul Anka. The rest of the score was composed, arranged, and orchestrated by Maurice Jarre. It was the minimum needed for this super production, which is considered as one of the most brilliant tributes to the freedom soldiers! In addition to “The Longest Day”’s score are featured the World War II cinema classics’ soundtracks: Denys de la Patellière’s “Un Taxi Pour Tobrouk” composed by Georges Garvarentz, René Clément’s “Is Paris Burning?” composed by Maurice Jarre, René Clément’s “La Bataille du Rail” composed by Yves Baudrier, René Clément’s “Mr. Orchid composed by René Cloërec, and René Clément’s “Forbidden Games” composed by Narciso Yepes.

‘I record so much I forget even my own records!’ Markevitch was a prolific recording artist for several labels, principal among them Deutsche Grammophon, HMV/EMI and Philips (Eloquence has also released a new, complementary collection of his Philips legacy). He felt more comfortable in the studio than many of his podium colleagues and viewed recording as the opportunity to bring out aspects of the score which could remain unheard by live audiences.
