Any project in the works for two decades is bound to generate its fair share of myths and so it is with Neil Young's Archives, a series of a multi-disc box sets chronicling Young's history. Originally envisioned in the late '80s as a Decade II, the project quickly mutated into a monster covering every little corner of Neil's career. With its escalation came delays, so many that it sometimes seemed that the project never really existed; it was just a shared fantasy between Neil and his faithful…

The BGO CD reissue of two 1963 albums, the live We Want Billy! and the studio Billy, presents a pair of unenduring sets. Fury may have been one of the best of the pre-Beatle rockers, but that doesn't make him great. About half of the "concert" date consists of rock & roll oldies like "Sweet Little Sixteen" and "Unchain My Heart," sung in a competent sub-Elvis mold (though the Tornados aren't about to make anyone forget Scotty Moore or James Burton). There's also a lengthy medley of many of his early-'60s pop hits, which are better heard in their studio versions.

Pierre Monteux A major figure during the golden age of American orchestral music, conductor Pierre Monteux had an exceptionally long career that began in the 19th century, encompassed the premiere of Stravinsky's Le Sacre du printemps, which he conducted, and extended into the 1960s. He fundamentally shaped several American orchestras in the French style. Monteux had a large recording catalog stretching back well into the 78 rpm era. Many of his recordings appeared in reissues well after his death; a 1955 recording with the Boston Symphony Orchestra featuring works by Berlioz, Brahms, Chausson, Debussy, Franck, and d'Indy appeared in a digital form on the ICA label in 2018.

Guitarist Joe Pass was known for his forthright, straight-ahead style, gorgeous tone, and melodic concepts. This magnificent five-CD set collects his entire output in 1963 and 1964 as a leader, with additional sessions in which Pass plays in a trio led by Les McCann. Most of the tracks feature a quartet (the five exceptions adding the saxophone or flute of Bill Perkins), with the guitarist virtually always a key voice.

The combination of these Nancy Wilson albums, "Hollywood: My Way" and "Broadway: My Way", provide pleasant, easy listening interpretations of Broadway and Hollywood standards. These 24 tracks - including "Tonight" from West Side Story, "Moon River" from Breakfast at Tiffany's, and "Days of Wine and Roses" from Days of Wine and Roses - hold up exceptionally well. The LPs were originally released on Capitol Records in 1963 and 1964, and had been out of print until EMI reissued them on a compact disc in 2001.
