Thirteen Thigns

Thirteen Senses are a Cornish indie/rock band. They released two albums: The UK release of their second album ‘Contact’ was in April 2007, including the hit single “All the love in your hands”. In terms of their style and sound, Thirteen Senses are quite similar to other British bands like Keane and Coldplay; but take on a wider range of influences, including Mew, Mercury Rev and a minimalist aesthetic, with their lyrics also visiting darker themes.

John Burge is a JUNO Award-winning composer and a passionate advocate for Canadian music who has a strong affinity with writing for string instruments. All of the works in this recording were commissioned and premiered by the Thirteen Strings Chamber Orchestra. Opening with the joyous and celebratory Sinfonia Antiqua, the mood shifts to an evocative and impressionistic atmosphere in Forgotten Dreams, while One Sail captures the compelling power of poetic imagery. The Upper Canada Fiddle Suite blends tradition and nostalgia with entirely original inventiveness, and concludes an album that perfectly represents Burge’s eloquent and deeply expressive compositional style.

Geffen Records seems to have intended a straightforward "best of" compilation containing the singles released from Neil Young's five albums with the label between 1982 and 1987. Then Young himself became involved, and his version of a Geffen sampler naturally turned out to be more unusual…
