The Goldies label is dependable for one thing: you never know what you're going to get. This compilation by Tom Jones is a case in point. While there are some of his classic songs here such as "Delilah" and "She's a Lady," they are not the original versions. They're recorded with a big studio band with a funked up bassline and some cheesy keyboards with a bigger than God horn section and a doubled up female backing chorus. But those aren't the biggest surprises. Those come later, making this an almost indispensable collection.

Newly remastered 2CD/Blu-ray Audio deluxe edition of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers’ classic 1982 album Long After Dark, featuring “You Got Lucky,” “Change of Heart,” and “Straight Into Darkness.” This expanded set includes 12 rediscovered tracks, 7 of which are previously unreleased (featuring “Never Be You”), along with new liner notes by David Fricke, hi-res stereo and an all new ATMOS mix of the album by Ryan Ulyate.

South London singer-songwriter Tom Misch released a great album last year in collaboration with Yussef Dayes called What Kinda Music—his first major release since 2018’s Geography. Today he’s returned with the first new music of this year in the form of classic covers spanning several decades and a few new originals. “I’ve always been able to make feel good music regardless of whether I’m feeling good” said Misch in a press release. “Perhaps that’s set me in good stead for where we are now.” He reimagines James Blake’s “The Whilhelm Scream,” Solange’s “Cranes in the Sky,” Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit,” and Crystal Waters’ “Gypsy Woman.” For the final cover, “Parabéns,” he worked with the originator, Brazilian jazz and bossa nova legend Marco Valle. The three new tracks from Misch are the opener “Chain Reaction,” then “For Carol” featuring Tobie Tripp, and closer “Missing You.”
