Genesis keyboardist Tony Banks has made several stabs at a solo career since 1978, writing and recording in various styles and occasionally under different group names. However, none of his attempts have been very commercially successful, a sore point for the man many deem responsible for a large portion of the Genesis sound…

A Curious Feeling is the début solo album from Genesis keyboardist Tony Banks. Recorded at ABBA's Polar Music Studios during a brief Genesis hiatus, it was released in 1979 on Charisma Records and is one of only two of Banks' solo albums to have entered the UK Albums Chart, reaching 21 and staying on the chart for five weeks. According to Banks himself, the album "got some extremely scathing reviews, I don't think they were fair" but he conceded "this was post-punk and this was really not the album that people wanted to hear". Classic Rock reviewer Jerry Ewing agrees with Banks, writing that the album is made of "lush pastoral English prog rock that deserved better at the time" and is probably the musician's best solo effort.

Tony Banks, the renowned founder member and keyboard maven of the rock band Genesis, continues his acclaimed series of orchestral compositions with Five. The suite opens with Prelude to a Million Years, originally commissioned for and performed at the Cheltenham Music Festival. Banks’ signature melodic gifts and feel for cinematic scale are all in evidence in Five, just as they were in Six (NX 2986) and Seven.

Inner Prospekt is a sensational solo project by Mad Crayon's keyboard master Alessandro di Benedetti, in a style that is more electronic oriented that Italian prog (RPI) but offers up some incredibly interesting tracks that are modern, fresh and yet infused with a vast amount of soling in a style that is reminiscent of, yes, you guessed it, Tony Banks! In fact, Inner Prospekt sounds a lot like cross between electronic composers William Orbit, Richard Kirk and Banco di Gaia with the added component of frequent piano, organ and synthesizer soloing in the style of the venerable Genesis maestro…

Famous for his role as keyboard player in the progressive rock band Genesis, Tony Banks has always been fascinated by the idea of writing orchestral music. Five of the seven pieces in this orchestral suite were written specifically for the Seven project; the remaining two were older pieces. Throughout the seven movements Banks creates intense orchestral sound pictures. The calm serenity which characterises the main themes of the separate movements is often contrasted with uncomfortable stormy turbulence, the overall result being a scenic overview of orchestral colours and timbres.

The impetus for Tony Banks (Genesis) new orchestral album Five was a commission for the 70th Cheltenham Music Festival in 2014, for which Banks composed the original version of what now appears as the opening track of the new recording, Prelude to a Million Years. Then it was entitled Arpegg and received its world première on Saturday 5 July 2014 with Maxime Tortelier conducting the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra

Although Peter Banks sadly died in 2013, this new studio album features some of his work which has never been released until now. On 10th August 2010 he and David Cross got together for an afternoon of improvisation and all guitar and violin parts are from that time. Banks had expressed his desire for this music to one day be made available, so over the last few years Cross asked some friends to become involved and help in making this album a reality…

The 1977 classic "FIELDVOLE MUSIC" continued the trend of bizarre titles for Free Reed's LPs - this one taken from the nickname of cartoonist and melodeon maestro TONY HALL. Tony was the accompanist of choice for many 70s folk stars - he was on June Tabor & Maddy Prior's 'Silly Sisters' tour in 1976 - and for this exquisite Free Reed LP, he was joined by Nic Jones & Johnny Moynihan to create possibly the greatest selection of classic melodeon tunes & songs ever recorded. Once again, the production was in the hands of Nic Kinsey, and we include 7 extra tracks from the 1977 sessions. Booklet notes are by the shanty man & historian STAN HUGILL.

An album that could easily have been called "Son of Yes." With rippling keyboard passages and crackling lead guitar, the sound is less intense and demanding than Yes, but also less interesting.
