Mexican group Los Ángeles Azules were formed in the early '80s by brothers Elías, José, and Jorge Mejía Avante. Playing a Latin style known as onda grupera, the band became a chart-topping act after issuing Inolvidables in 1996, soon achieving platinum status in Argentina, where they successfully performed live in 1998. Later, singer Carlos Becíes decided to leave the group, forming his own band called Los Ángeles de Charly.

French group originally consisting of Eric Mouquet and Michel Sanchez. They helped popularize the so-called "Global Pop", ambient music combined with ethnic sounds. "Comparsa" is the duo's third studio release. This album mixes world music and ethnic sounds, including Cuban rhythms, mixed with electronic instruments. After the release of the album Deep Forest arranged a highly successful world tour. The album became #8 French export album of 1998 and was certified Platinum by SNEP Export Awards, with more than 500,000 albums sold outside France.

A techno-pop band from Spain, Mecano were formed in the early '80s by brothers Nacho and José María Cano, who were joined by singer Ana Torroja. While the Spanish new wave, known as Movida Madrileña, was at its highest level of popularity, Mecano burst into the local scene with "Hoy No Me Puedo Levantar," a single released by CBS in 1981. They issued "Perdido en Mi Habitación" that same year. Mecano's debut album was presented live at Madrid's Palace Hotel in March of 1982. Soon after, the band started touring the country, with Javier de Juan playing drums and Manolo Aguilar on bass. In 1983, Nacho Cano began composing for other acts, starting with Rubin's "Me He Enamorado de un Fan," also producing a band named Betty Troupe and working with La Unión. Later, José María Cano started songwriting for local stars such as Ana Belén and Massiel.
