Attempts to encapsulate the vastness of Punk Rock (capitalized throughout this piece, because let's face it, it's a proper noun) throughout its now lengthy history have all fallen well short of the mark. Is it a musical genre or a cultural movement? A hairstyle or the very essence of DIY? Don Letts, original punk biographer, DJ and musician, in his film, Punk: Attitude sums it up just perfectly with that film's very title. Punk is an attitude and, as he puts it himself, "part of an ongoing movement of counterculture." After airing on the Independent Film Channel as part of "Punk Month", Letts' film claws its way, gasping for air, out of a packed house at CBGB's or the Roxy and onto DVD for home consumption.

Spandau Ballet were nearing the end of their time as a commercial force when this 74-minute concert documentary was filmed in Birmingham on December 16 and 17 in 1986. However, they were still packing the seats in front of a large, enthusiastic crowd on this well-shot movie, directed by one of the most prominent figures in music documentary-making (Geoff Wonfor, most famous for directing The Beatles Anthology series). It's a straightforward record of a flashy mid-'80s hit pop band in concert, with plenty of shadowy, shifting colored lighting and much slick posing by the fashionably dressed on-stage players. The 13-song set contains a number of their biggest hit singles, including "True," "Gold," "Through the Barricades," "Fight for Ourselves," "Chant No. 1," "To Cut a Long Story Short," and "Lifeline."

Crossfire Publications have set a May 28, 2012 release date for a 5-CD set of recordings from the pre-Mothers era, with many tracks making their CD debuts. The set is entitled "Paul Buff Presents Highlights From The Pal And Original Sound Studio Archives." Paul Buff, owner of Pal Recording Studio in Cucamonga, California from 1957-1964, first opened up his archives in 2010 for a large series of download-only releases. This 156-track collection features 58 early masters by the late Frank Zappa, recorded at Pal and Original Sound Recording Studios. These recordings feature Zappa as performer, writer and/or producer.
