This certainly is one of the most powerful contemporary jazz albums the Latvian jazz scene has to offer. Trumpeter Gerhard Ornig, saxophonist Toms Rudzinskis, drummer Andris Buiķis and contrabassist Pat Cleaver have created original and contemporary jazz music that combines tradition-based yet contemporary, dynamic and energetic sound. The recording was made in an analogue manner on a tape with the musicians playing together in the same room.

Released in 1990, No Depression, is a genuine milestone in American rock n roll, a still striking fusion of traditional folk and country with post punk innovation and hardcore ferocity. The album, recorded at Boston s Fort Apache South with iconic producers Sean Slade & Paul Q. Kolderie (Radiohead, Belly, Pixies, Dinosaur Jr.), struck a loud, twangy chord throughout the American Indie Underground, inspiring countless bands as well as an online notice board and a magazine that served to both forward and document the thriving musical movement that came to be known as alt-country. Legacy Edition sees the original classic album remastered and augmented by twenty-two extraordinary extras, including for the first time on CD, 1989 s legendary Not Forever, Just For Now demo tape. Legacy Edition additionally includes an exclusive history by writer Richard Byrne, whose ardent support in St. Louis alternative weekly, The Riverfront Times, proved influential during Uncle Tupelo's early career.

Packaging includes liner notes from renowned journalist and producer Bill Bentley. Formed in Spartanburg, SC around 1970, Uncle Walt’s Band David Ball, Deschamps Hood, and Walter Hyatt) established themselves in the area before relocating to Nashville (garnering a following a recording/publishing deal with Buzz Cason), and eventually Austin (per the invite of Willis Alan Ramsey who was anxious to record them.) The band played steadily around Austin in clubs including Castle Creek, Saxon Pub, and Armadillo World Headquarters—where live albums from New Riders Of The Purple Sage, Waylon Jennings, Frank Zappa/Captain Beefheart, Commander Cody, and more were recorded.

Rise Above, 14 songs deep and proudly devoid of gimmicks or distractions, Slaughter On First Avenue is a riveting and raw account of Uncle Acid in full flight. From early classics like I’ll Cut You Down and Death’s Door (both from Blood Lust), to more recent works of lysergic aggro like Shockwave City (from Wasteland) and sinister epic Slow Death (from The Night Creeper), this amalgamation of two fiery and unforgettable live shows has a mesmerising momentum all of its own.

A short-lived collaboration between cult singer Carol Grimes and songwriter David Skinner (formerly half of pop duo Twice As Much), Uncle Dog formed in London in the autumn of 1971. Their rare album was recorded at various times over the ensuing year, and features musicians including guitar legends Paul Kossoff, David Lindley, and Paul Rudolph, as well as Plastic Ono Band/Yes drummer Alan White.

Here we find Powell and Hoffman stretching out, but not relaxing at all. The mood is highly charged and powerful, with Powell hitting hard and Hoffman shredding like a chainsaw on razor wire. There are some subtle love songs on Love Songs, but many tracks that speak to the full experience of love - the energy, the tension, the elation and the agony. Love Songs is a concept album telling the story of the interpersonal relationship: starting with the end of one love, the discovery of a new- and the inevitable passing once again. Classic tracks are included to keep the concept in context - from Louis Jordan’s “Caledonia” and Nirvana’s “tourette’s,” to Fats Domino’s “Sick and Tired” and Jimi Hendrix’s “Jam 292.” It’s a wonder to see this unlikely Uncle/Nephew duo chart new territory with full appreciation of the past.
