The tale of Conan the Cimmerian and his adventures across the continent of Hyboria on a quest to avenge the murder of his father and the slaughter of his village.

After being abandoned by the husband she eloped with, Wei Ming (Ruan Lingyu) seeks new life in Shanghai. She becomes a music teacher in a private school and apires to becoming a writer. With the help of her friend Yu Haichou (Zheng Junli), her first book is going to be published. The publisher, however, gets interested in publishing it only after her true identity as a beautiful woman is revealed. The trustee of the school, Dr. Wang (Wang Naidong), although a married man, keeps proposing to Wei Ming and secrectly has her expelled after being rejected by her. Being unemployed, and having to save her child, who falls seriously ill shortly after their reunion, Wei Ming must decide what to do…

In 19th-century China, seven year old girls Snow Flower and Lily are matched as laotong - or "old sames" - bound together for eternity. Isolated by their families, they furtively communicate by taking turns writing in a secret language, nu shu, between the folds of a white silk fan. In a parallel story in present day Shanghai, the laotong's descendants, Nina and Sophia, struggle to maintain the intimacy of their own childhood friendship in the face of demanding careers, complicated love lives, and a relentlessly evolving Shanghai. Drawing on the lessons of the past, the two modern women must understand the story of their ancestral connection, hidden from them in the folds of the antique white silk fan, or risk losing one another forever.

The movie follows the wealthy Squire (Xu Jin Jiang) who has one obsession which is to be best in the art of sex. However, he is extremely strict with his own daughter Yau (Loretta Lee). When she is sent away to study he has disguised her as a boy and putted on her a chastity device with sharp rotating blades to protect her from men like himself. However she falls in love with a young swordsman who is pursuing the deadly demon called the Mirage Lady (Shu Qi). The demon is using her sexual power to drain peoples energy so they die. And a deadly confrontation is bound to happen when the Mirage Lady is married to Yaus father.

Liang Pao-erh (Cora Miao) joins the carefree "Spinsters' Club" when she discovers her husband (Chow Yun-fat) is having an affair. Despite the seemingly happy front that her "sisters" put on, underneath it all each of them secretly yearns for a man in their lives. Intended as the concluding film in the trilogy on the modern history of Taiwan began with Beiqing Chengshi (1989), this film reveals the story through three levels: a film within a film as well as the past and present as linked by a young woman, Liang Ching. She is being persecuted by an anonymous man who calls her repeatedly but does not speak. He has stolen her diary and faxes her pages daily. Liang is also rehearsing for a new film that is due to go into production soon. The film, entitled Haonan Haonu, is about a couple Chiang Bi-yu and Chung Hao-tung who returns to China to participate in the anti-Japanese movement in China in the 1940s and are arrested as communists when they go back to Taiwan.
