This book uses experimental and computational methods to rationalize and predict for the first time the relative impact sensitivities of a range of energetic materials. Using knowledge of crystal structures, vibrational properties, energy-transfer mechanisms, and experimentally measured sensitivities, it describes a model that leads to excellent correlation with experimental results in all cases. As such, the book paves the way for a new, fully ab initio approach for the design of safer energetic materials based solely on knowledge of their solid-state structures.

How to Use This Handbook The Maple Handbook is a complete reference tool for the Maple lan­ guage, and is written for all Maple users, regardless of their discipline or field(s) of interest. All the built-in mathematical, graphic, and system­ based commands available in Maple V Release 4 are detailed herein. Please note that The Maple Handbook does not teach the mathematics behind Maple commands. If you do not know the meaning of such concepts as definite integral, identity matrix, or prime integer, do not expect to learn them here. As well, while the introductory sections to each chapter taken together provide a basic overview of the capabil­ ities of Maple, it is highly recommended that you also read a more thorough tutorial such as Introduction to Maple by Andre Heck, or one of standard manuals shipped with Maple V Release 4. Overall Organization One of the main premises of The Maple Handbook is that most Maple users approach the system to solve a particular problem (or set of prob­ lems) in a specific subject area. Therefore, all commands are organized in logical subsets that reflect these different categories, e.g., calculus, algebra, data manipulation, etc.; the commands within a subset are ex­ plained in a similar language, creating a tool that allows you quick and confident access to the information necessary to complete the problem you have brought to the system.

SeismoMatch is an application capable of adjusting earthquake accelerograms to match a specific target response spectrum, using the wavelets algorithm proposed by Abrahamson [1992] and Hancock et al. [2006] or the algorithm proposed by Al Atik and Abrahamson [2010]. After loading some accelerograms and defining the target response spectrum, users need only to define the spectral matching algorithm, adjust the spectral matching period range, set the required tolerance and the spectral matching is executed.

SeismoSignal constitutes an easy and efficient way for signal processing of strong-motion data, featuring a user-friendly visual interface and being capable of deriving a number of strong-motion parameters often required by engineer seismologists and earthquake engineers.

SeismoSpect constitutes a simple and efficient platform for signal processing that allows to create a personal library of ground motion records and save them all in a single file making it easy to handle and share large numbers of records.

SeismoArtif is an application capable of generating artificial earthquake accelerograms matched to a specific target response spectrum using different calculation methods and varied assumptions. It is noted that the use of real accelerograms and spectrum matching techniques (see SeismoMatch), together with records selection tools, tends to be recommended for the derivation of suites of records for use in nonlinear dynamic analysis of structures. However, in those cases where access to real accelerograms is, for whatever reason, challenging or inappropriate, then a tool such as SeismoArtif will be of pertinence and usefulness.
