The soundtrack was a success, peaking at No. 16 on the Billboard 200 and spawning the top-10 hit "Theme from Mission: Impossible" by U2 members Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen, Jr.. Also includes Danny Elfman, Björk, Pulp, Massive Attack, The Cranberries, Gavin Friday, Salt, Nicolette, Longpigs, Skunk Anansie, and Cast.

It’s been a long time coming: almost four years of digging and delving into tape vaults, following this or that lead, before we felt we had enough to make another “Super Funk” outing not just viable but undeniably worthwhile. We like to go a little further, offering up music that can’t be sourced elsewhere. To that end, alongside seven cuts culled from rare 45s, we have unearthed 13 unissued masters, all high quality. They include a previously unknown cut by Linda Lyndell, of ‘What A Man’ fame, and an instrumental version of the funk break ‘I Got Some’ from Dave Hamilton’s archive.

The soundtrack album was released in October 1995. It features mainly alternative rock from the 90s along with dialogue from the film. The ordering of the songs on the soundtrack album is not the order they appear as in the film. For example, Squirtgun's "Social" opens the film, while Weezer's "Susanne" ends the film, with Wax's "Mallrats" playing over the end credits. The song "Boogie Shoes" by KC and the Sunshine Band makes an appearance, when Brodie and T.S. drive to the flea market. However, it was excluded from the soundtrack album. A music video for The Goops' version of "Build Me Up Buttercup" was directed by Smith and featured both Smith and Mewes.
