The Group released one album in 1978 and later evolved to the Pekka Pohjola Group. Double digipak CD. The 2nd disc features an extended studio session with the Sibelius academy orchestra plus two studio outtakes from the original album. Highly influenced by Weather Report and the jazz fusion scene of the 70s, The Group was set up after Pekka Pohjola and Vesa Aaltonen came back to Finland from Sweden. They both played in the Swedish prog/jazz rock band Made in Sweden. As The Group’s guitarist Seppo Tyni remembers, Aaltonen came back to Finland in early 1977 and Pohjola later in the summer. From the early 1977 Aaltonen and Tyni both played in Olli Ahvenlahti Quintet that for example performed at the Finnish Eurovision qualification (though they played as a quartet there)…

Progressive Rock

One of Finland's most famous prog rock bands. Founded in spring 1969 by guitarist Jukka Tolonen and drummer Vesa Aaltonen. Other members of the band came from Blues Section that had recently split up: bassist Måns Groundstroem and singer Frank Robson. Tasavallan Presidentti released their debut album in 1969. They toured in Sweden and England in the early 1970s and released three more albums but split up in 1974….

I liked this album very much! The voice of FRANK ROBSON is more pleasing to my ear than EERO RAITTINEN's, who replaced him on the forthcoming "Lamberland" album.

This was in the time the few Finnish discs that were released not only in Finland but also in the UK and the USA and at least in Sakasha and Canadas. The record was recorded in London's DeLane Lea Studio in August-September 1973, but was released due to various delays only in the spring of 1974.

This sturdy package consists of over 90 minutes of Tasavallan Presidentti on stage in 1972 performing live renditions of material from their most progressive album Lambertland. The package offers a unique view into how the band moulded and twisted the songs live, often creating entirely new work in the process. Recorded by the Finnish Broadcasting Corporation, the sound quality is excellent.
