This book, now in a thoroughly revised second edition, offers a comprehensive review of the rapidly growing field of optogenetics, in which light-sensing proteins are genetically engineered into cells in order to acquire information on cellular physiology in optical form or to enable control of specific network in the brain upon activation by light. Light-sensing proteins of various living organisms are now available to be exogenously expressed in neurons and other target cells both in vivo and in vitro.

Esperanza Spalding has released her latest project, Triangle – a suite of three songs each developed to foster emotional and physical connections to listeners. The tracks, “formwela 1,” “formwela 2” with Ganavya and “formwela 3,” were created with consultation from experts on music therapy, neuroscience, Black American music, Sufism, and South Indian Carnatic music.

This book illustrates how modern mathematical wavelet transform techniques offer fresh insights into the complex behavior of neural systems at different levels: from the microscopic dynamics of individual cells to the macroscopic behavior of large neural networks. It also demonstrates how and where wavelet-based mathematical tools can provide an advantage over classical approaches used in neuroscience. The authors well describe single neuron and populational neural recordings.
