Published by Djam Karet’s new indie label Firepool Records, Herd of Instinct’s debut CD was four years in the making. Created in hot pursuit of the darkened, serpentine corridors of contemporary instrumental Progressive Rock music, this self-titled release is truly for fans of King Crimson, Steve Tibbetts, Djam Karet and big picture music.
Pushing the limits of their own creativity, Herd of Instinct draws from a vast source of influences: multi-cultural music, literary clues, Horror and cinematic film scores, and obscure elements of Rock, Avant-garde, Electronic, Prog, and Psychedelic music. Recording sessions took place in Texas, North Carolina, and various global locations, from 2007-2010…

The Herd was one of the most innovative of the exciting new wave of pop sensations that emerged in the late Sixties. Starring Peter Frampton, the singer and guitarist hailed as ‘The Face Of ’68’, the band hit the charts with such elaborate and unusual arrangements as‘From The Underworld’, ‘Paradise Lost’ and ‘I Don’t Want Our Loving To Die’. This superb double CD set has a wealth of tracks that coverstheir career, featuring early single releases from 1965 as well as hits from 1967-68, tracks from their ‘Paradise Lost’ album and other earlyrecordings.

Before '70s superstardom, even before Humble Pie, Peter Frampton got his first taste of celebrity as a singer and guitarist in the Herd, who chalked up several hits in Britain in 1967 and 1968. Frampton was only 17 when the single "From the Underworld" went into the British Top Ten in late 1967; "Paradise Lost" and "I Don't Want Our Loving to Die" were hits for the group in the first half of 1968. The Herd's brand of mod was extremely commercial and good-timey- and pop-oriented, a bit like a muted and mainstream Small Faces.
