Duo Pleyel releases its second album on Linn Records, following its "winning performances" (BBC Music Magazine) of Schubert. Richard Egarr and Alexandra Nepomnyashchaya perform the complete original works for piano four-hands by the unjustly neglected composer Jan Ladislav Dussek.

With this first album by the exciting duet comprising the pianists Marcos Madrigal and Alessandro Stella, the works of Stravinsky, Debussy and Respighi plunge the listener into arrangements of three of the great orchestral scores of the 20th century. Ottorino Respighi's Fontane di Roma (The Fountains of Rome) is better known as an orchestral piece but is performed here in its Four Hands for Piano version composed by the composer himself. A celebration of colour and emotion celebrated by these two talented pianists.

Is there another single-disc recording of all five of the complete original pieces composed by Mendelssohn for piano duet and two pianos? If so, I doubt if it’s as good as this with Roberto Prosseda, tireless champion of the composer, joined here by his wife Alessandra Ammara.

He played most of them immediately after their completion with Clara Schumann and greatly appreciated her opinion.In his Hungarian Dances Brahms brilliantly transformed original Hungarian melodies and rhythms into multi-coloured orchestral works. The Blüthner grand piano from 1867 shows how Brahms made perfect use of the entire keyboard in his writing for four hands.
