As the title of this package intimates, Winterland June 1977: The Complete Recordings (2009) contains a full run of shows at the San Fran-based Winterland Arena in early June 1977 – the 7th, 8th and 9th, to be exact. Listeners are treated to a trio of consecutive Grateful Dead performances, during one of their unquestionable zeniths as a live combo. The warts 'n' all presentation provides the further intimacy of hearing – in real-time – the crests and ebbs of each individual evening on its own or when sized up beside the other evenings.

If Day at the Races was a sleek, streamlined album, its 1977 successor, News of the World, was its polar opposite, an explosion of styles that didn't seem to hold to any particular center. It's front-loaded with two of Queen's biggest anthems – the stomping, stadium-filling chant "We Will Rock You" and its triumphant companion, "We Are the Champions" – which are quickly followed by the ferocious "Sheer Heart Attack," a frenzied rocker that hits harder than anything on the album that shares its name (a remarkable achievement in itself)…

December 21 is the first day of winter, and the Grateful Dead is helping welcome the season by treating fans to a winter solstice playlist. The band announced the new playlist on Instagram, which is made up of “over 16 hours of the best and longest versions of essential Dead tracks – roughly the same amount of darkness we’ll see during the Winter Solstice!”

Dave's Picks Volume 45 is a four-CD live album by the rock band the Grateful Dead. It contains two complete concerts recorded on October 1 and 2, 1977 at the Paramount Theatre in Portland, Oregon. It was released on January 27, 2023, in a limited edition of 25,000 copies.
The album is one of many Grateful Dead live releases to feature performances from 1977, widely considered a peak year for the band. Material from the band's October 1977 shows was previously documented on Road Trips Volume 1 Number 2.

Disagreements and debates are common among Grateful Dead fans but there is a surprising consensus that the show the group gave at Barton Hall at Cornell University on May 8, 1977 is one of the band's greatest. It, like so many Dead shows, first gained its reputation through tape trading, but its legend soon eclipsed Deadhead circles, culminating in its induction into the Library of Congress's National Recording Registry in 2012. Rhino/Grateful Dead Records' official release followed in May 2017 – just in time for the concert's 40th anniversary; it was also bundled as part of a big box called Get Shown the Light, which contains all the shows the Dead did in May 1977 – and it's worth the wait.
