The collapse of the bipolar international system near the end of the twentieth century changed political liberalism from a regional system with aspirations of universality to global ideological dominance as the basic vision of how international life should be organized.

By the last decade of the twentieth century, the great questions of modernity seemed to be answered. With the collapse of the Soviet Union and global communism, the liberal democratic capitalist project seemed to be the only one left standing, and in the 1990s the "liberal ideal" spread worldwide. Today, of course, this universalistic narrative rings hollow.

Globalization has entered a new period, the age of technology and knowledge, and the Eurasian era based on a long-term sustainable growth. International relations in the 21st century have become even more complex and intricate, and geography plays an important role in understanding this. Geofusion is the synthesis of network maps depicting the functional relations arranged into hubs, and can be used to outline the new economic and geopolitical powers of our world.
