Yearbook Roadtest

Each release in our Yearbook series contains a vinyl edition with a selection of tracks from the complete line-up of the CD version. Inevitably, this means that a large number of fabulous tracks are not included on the LP versions… and we also released a companion CD Extra for each year. At the end of 2022 we released NOW Yearbook 1980 - 1984: Vinyl Extra a 5LP boxset containing one album per year for the period 1980-1984, each with an incredible selection of tracks taken from either Yearbook or the Extra and not previously included on a vinyl edition.

This is the second volume of the Yearbook, edited by the directors of the Max Planck Institute for Comparative Public Law and International Law, in Heidelberg, Germany. The publication constitutes the first scholarly Yearbook to focus

1984 was a truly incredible year in pop music, and we have included more than 140 tracks on the CDs of the 1984 Yearbook, the 80-84 Final Chapter, and their extras so far in our appreciation of the year. Those tracks were generally the bigger hits of the year, with their chart achievement a factor in their inclusion – however – that’s not the whole singles story of the year, and our celebration of 1984 wouldn’t be complete without shining a light on some of the years’ singles that have been compiled much less frequently over the past 40 years. Welcome to THE VAULT for 1984… Some of the tracks included were Top 40 hits, some missed the chart completely.
