Yngwie Johan Malmsteen (born Lars Johan Yngve Lannerbäck, 30 June 1963) is a Swedish guitarist, songwriter, composer, and bandleader. Malmsteen first became known in the 1980s for his neoclassical playing style in heavy metal, and has released 21 studio albums in a career spanning over 40 years. In 2009, Time magazine rated Malmsteen as number 9 among the 11 greatest electric guitar players of all time.
The Seventh Sign is the seventh studio album by guitarist Yngwie Malmsteen, released on 9 May 1994. After the classically-tinged Fire and Ice (1993), Yngwie Malmsteen returned to his heavy metal roots on this 1994 release. This is one of his hardest albums; the songwriting as well as the guitar work shows the influence of bands like Rainbow and Deep Purple. Most of the material is solid, and there are a few outstanding tracks like Pyramid of Cheops. The vocals are handled by Mike Verscara, who shows himself to be a competent, if not outstanding singer. The mastering on this SPV edition is quite good, resulting in very clear sound. The bonus material here consists of a studio track, In the Distance

Their signature, blistering Yngwie Malmsteen guitar arpeggios and lightning fast double-kick drums are still evident, but the overall heavy metal thunder is diluted by their everything-but-the-kitchen-sink approach. Left alone in the studio to record the album on their own, AS show their unbridled enthusiasm to be as inventive as possible as they run through a staggering amount of production enhancements: four songs have string arrangements; violinists, pianists, and vocalists make guest appearances here and there…
