“More than a quarter of a century ago a young Egyptian archaeologist, clearing a site just south of the Great Pyramid at Giza, broke through a massive slab of limestone to reveal a vault beneath his feet. For the first time in 4,500 years the sun’s rays were shining down on the timbers of a great papyriform ship, built for a king and then dismantled and buried here at the height of the Egyptian Old Kingdom. Astonishingly well preserved, it was by far the most ancient vessel ever to come to light.

Known for having been trumpeter Jun Miyake (三宅 純) 's go-to mulit-instrumentalist and close friend, the late Dairo Miyamoto leaves behind an exceptional body of work for the world to discover and tops it off with one of his most refined demonstrations in Last Picture —an album that bursts with creativity and a rare sense of refinement and completeness. The Tokyo-born saxophonist's final outing is an assortment of different songs and sketches, which were recorded with and by Jun Miyake over the years and now finally, after close revision and careful selection by Miyake himself, released.

Cafe Groppi is a very ancient place in Cairo. It is a place of cosmopolitan meetings, a place of short-lived, pointless, lightness and based on appearences where, as the poet Tristan Klingsor wrote, intellectuels argue bitterly over poetry and beauty. I was inspired by this chilhood memory to concieve these compositions and link them up. They could be nostalgic about promising times but they are uncertain portraits or moments which I hope to be carefree, deep, light, blissful and engraved.
