Parlophone has unveiled the most anticipated installment of their definitive David Bowie reissue campaign with the release of "A New Career in a New Town". What makes this particular box set so special is that the collection’s focal point is the late, great Duke’s Berlin period, an era considered by many fans to be his most creative span in a career defined by constant change. Working in tandem with longtime producer Tony Visconti and friend Brian Eno (himself immersed in Germany’s experimental electronic movement of the '70s through his collaborative efforts with Cluster), Bowie ushered himself into the punk and new wave era by going against the grain of the time, looking to the works of such Krautrock heroes as Can, Kraftwerk and Neu! to inspire the conception of the three LPs constructed between 1977 and 1979: Low, “Heroes” and Lodger, known by most as the singer’s Berlin Trilogy.

The third installment in a comprehensive deluxe reissue series of David Bowie's entire catalog, A New Career in a New Town (1977-1982) chronicles perhaps the most artistically ambitious phase in Bowie's career – one that began with 1977's Low and concluded with 1980's Scary Monsters (And Super Creeps)…

"Sula vie dilejo. Solo vie milejo!"Warsaw, April 1976. The little cozy train from Zurich to Moscow stops for a while in the even more inhospitable capital of socialist Poland. A well-known Londoner with his buddy Iggy Pop walks deeply impressed through a city full of bomb craters, bullet holes and coal smog. A trip in the middle of the"low" sessions, which should be worthwhile. Meanwhile, the other buddy Brian Eno sat alone at home and devised the basic melody of "Warszawa".

Repeating the formula of Low's half-vocal/half-instrumental structure, Heroes develops and strengthens the sonic innovations David Bowie and Brian Eno explored on their first collaboration. The vocal songs are fuller, boasting harder rhythms and deeper layers of sound. Much of the harder-edged sound of Heroes is due to Robert Fripp's guitar, which provides a muscular foundation for the electronics, especially on the relatively conventional rock songs. Similarly, the instrumentals on Heroes are more detailed, this time showing a more explicit debt to German synth pop and European experimental rock. Essentially, the difference between Low and Heroes lies in the details, but the record is equally challenging and groundbreaking.

After the freakish hard rock of The Man Who Sold the World, David Bowie returned to singer/songwriter territory on Hunky Dory. Not only did the album boast more folky songs ("Song for Bob Dylan," "The Bewlay Brothers"), but he again flirted with Anthony Newley-esque dancehall music ("Kooks," "Fill Your Heart"), seemingly leaving heavy metal behind. As a result, Hunky Dory is a kaleidoscopic array of pop styles, tied together only by Bowie's sense of vision: a sweeping, cinematic mélange of high and low art, ambiguous sexuality, kitsch, and class. Mick Ronson's guitar is pushed to the back, leaving Rick Wakeman's cabaret piano to dominate the sound of the album.

"Lodger" is the 13th studio album by English singer-songwriter David Bowie, the last of the Berlin Trilogy. It was recorded in Switzerland and New York City with collaborator Brian Eno and producer Tony Visconti. Unlike Bowie's previous two albums, Lodger contained no instrumentals and a somewhat more pop-oriented style while experimenting with elements of world music and recording techniques inspired by Eno's Oblique Strategies cards.
