"The Payback" is the 37th studio album by American musician James Brown. The album was released in December 1973, by Polydor Records. It was originally scheduled to become the soundtrack for the blaxploitation film Hell Up in Harlem, but was rejected by the film's producers, who dismissed it as "the same old James Brown stuff." (A widely repeated story - including by Brown himself - that director Larry Cohen rejected the music as "not funky enough" is denied by Cohen). It went to #1 on the Soul Albums chart for two weeks and cracked the Pop Albums chart in the Top 40. It was Brown's only studio album to be certified Gold. "The Payback" is considered a high point in Brown's recording career, and is now regarded by critics as a landmark funk album.

Soundtrack, Blaxploitation, Funk, Soul, Rhythm & Blues

The soundtrack to the Hughes Brothers' tribute to early-'70s blaxploitation gets the sound of the era right, featuring hits by the O'Jays, the Spinners, Isaac Hayes, Al Green, and Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes, among others. The inclusion of Danny Elfman's instrumental theme interrupts the flow of the album, but for the most part, Dead Presidents is a first-rate collection of prime soul.

"Hell" is the 41st studio album by American musician James Brown. The album was released on June 28, 1974, by Polydor Records. Yeah this is another fantastic James Brown album from his golden funk age, half of the album is with the JB's, so that meen Isiah "Ike" Oakley, Fred Wesley, Maceo Parker, St. Clair Pinckney, Hearlon "Cheese" Martin, Jimmy Nolen, Fred Thomas and John Morgan or John "Jabo" Starks on drums, yeah the other half is made with some studio musicians as Joe Farrell, Tom Harrell, David Sandborn, Joe Beck, Charlie Brown, Gordon Edwards and Jimmy Madison, but it really doesn't matter who play on the tracks because all the tracks are great funk and even Lyn Collins and Martha Harvin is singing some background vocals with the JB's.

Dangerous Toys is an Austin, Texas-based hard rock band with often humorous lyrics. Founded in 1987, Dangerous Toys had released four full-length albums and one live album before unofficially disbanding at the turn of the millennium. The R*tist 4*merly Known as Dangerous Toys is the fourth album by Dangerous Toys. The album's title is a parody of the name used in reference to American recording artist Prince from 1991 - 2000. The album cover art work is also a parody of Prince's album Lovesexy.

"Soul Syndrome" is the 50th studio album by American musician James Brown. The album was released in 1980, by TK Records. By 1980 James Brown was slightly adrift. His 1979 album, The Original Disco Man, failed to light a commercial fire, and its follow-up, People, seemed to fly into the cut-out bins. Brown cut his losses and left Polydor his home for over a decade for one album for Henry Stone's T.K. While this doesn't have Brown bubbling over with innovation, he still provided a more substantial alternative to disco.
